I lane split in California, but only where traffic is *totally* stopped, so that violent people would have to do something really blatant to smash me. But in Japan it's completely safe because someone who "accidentally" wiped out a motorcyclist would lose face and be ostracized, so culturally it just won't happen.

September 2nd, 2008 at 04:53:27 onboard videos are always a bit distorted in comparison to reality. i'm sure the rider was very good and the camera doesn't do justice to reveal everything he looked at, which is why it looks more dangerous than it really was. although i think in some parts he was a couple inches away at high speed between 2 trucks, which i think is little bit too close unless you have confidence in your setup, skill, and knowledge of all the turns.
