Worldwide one of a kind, the Vegetable Orchestra performs on instruments made of fresh vegetables. The utilization of various ever refined vegetable instruments creates a musically and aesthetically unique sound universe. http://www.vegetableorchestra.org ----- december 4th, 2007: wow, were are really amazed about the flood of comments in the last hours. so thank you all for your kind and unkind comments. we really appreciated that! sorry that we can not answer all... it's just too much! just one word to all the people who are concerned about people dying of starvation: we are concerned too. but not doing this project does change nothing. it doesn't make the world a better place. if you are really concerned about the distribution of wealth then do something about it! read books about the real cause of hunger. talk with your friends and family about it. change your own life and try to change politics. buy and support the right things. it is not people using vegetables differently than usual that make the world a bad place. it's all of us wanting too much. our own car, a new cellphone, a bigger house with air condition, more money... sending the vegetables to africa does not help. on the contrary it destroys the markets there, so people can not sell their own produce, because the imported one is too cheap. and by the way: people have used vegetables for music for centuries. also in africa. ----- december 5th, 2007: sorry, we had to disable commenting temporarily. it's way too much to handle at the moment. thank you all nevertheless!

This is amazing, not only have you made beautiful music but you have made music out of things that most people would have never of thought to use. My only question is what happened to the vegetables?!
  2. Delmer Says:
    awesome
  3. Maerewine Says:
and you are spending your live so much better... on the internet, posting comments on their video.
  4. UMARAH Says:
The world's first GREEN orchestra. Oh, except for the carrots.
  5. Chianna Says:
hmm... so these guys were able to creatively utilize something unexpected in the field of music, and showcase it on stage, to a very receptive and enthusiastic PAYING audience. and here you are sitting on your computer commenting on how THEY'RE the ones wasting their lives? I'm not even gonna go into anymore detail than I need to
  6. Daric Says:
what a bunch of geeks, i wonder what these guys do for a living
  7. Kim Says:
    this made me really hungry.
  8. ETHELBALD Says:
hahah i wonder if they get sad when it rots!!!
  9. Dallas Says:
To people criticizing this wonderful group for food "wasting" food, I ask are you a vegetarian? For one the meat industry wastes more food in one day, than this group EVER will. Think about it. One cow feeds far fewer people, than all the crops and water to feed that one cow could, if they were just fed directly. Also, the meat industry is the big cause of global warming(possibly the #1). Plus, its the right thign to do. What other freaking reasons do you NEED?
  10. Tremayne Says:
    I didn't like it...
  11. Birdie Says:
for the people playing the wind instruments that must have been a tasty concert!
  12. TAMARA Says:
exporting food into third world markets hurts local economies, prevents them from becoming self-sustaining by making them dependent on the western globalization machine, and only ends up adding to the problems of poverty and hunger. Educate yourself.
  13. FIRYAL Says:
And if they had not made those instruments... there would not be one single person less hungry. Not only do they eat them afterward, but the causes of world hunger are more a result of globalization and the economics of mega-corporations than a dozen or so people drumming on pumpkins.
  14. LISBET Says:
I guess bach and mozart and beethoven wasted thier time writing pointless symphonies that no one ever cared about too... It's amazing a spark of originality in this world anymore these day. Music is never a waste of life.
  15. Chana Says:
    wow =O
  16. TLALLI Says:
Hmmm... So doing something creative and artistic is a big waste of time, while a 30 year old loser sitting at home watching Youtube all day is the pinnacle of life's achievements, I guess?
  17. Zebulon Says:
People going hungry and they did WHAT????? I hope they at least fed it to some pigs or something!
  18. Mohammed Says:
In our house, were were always told, "Don't play with your food."
  19. ARCHARD Says:
Not to mention the fact that they eat them afterwards AND that vegetables have been used as musical instruments for hundreds of years all over the world.
  20. Kendriek Says:
wow - very cool it is so rare you see something this original on youtube lovely textures i esp. enjoyed the woodwind-y pitched material the plunger mute pepper was a real highlight as well i wonder howmuch is improvised versus strictly composed material - my guess is that it would be a combination
  21. Devent Says:
I wish they would've clearly shown the instrument that sounded like a synth bass. This is such an awesome idea; I wonder how many of them have formally studied acoustic engineering... I wonder if they still have a chef cook all the vegetables into a soup at the end of their shows.
  22. Talbot Says:
Wow, that was amazing. Talk about out of the box. How long did it take them to figure all this out?
  23. Lisandra Says:
What on earth does having a face have to do with it? There is evidence that plants can communicate with chemical signals, changing the growth rate of their roots when invasive/unrelated plants grow too near, for example. Life feeds on life, and drawing the line at having a face is just as arbitrary and silly as it would be to not eat plants because they can communicate.
  24. ZAHIR Says:
    interesting!!
  25. COSMIN Says:
    very intriguing.
